The River Avon (pronounced “A’an”) is a major tributary of the mighty River Spey.
The birth-place of the river is Loch Avon, one and a half miles long by up to a quarter of a mile wide.
It is guarded by Cairngorm to the north, Beinn Mheadhoin to the east and Beinn Macdui towers to the south.
The Avon travels 50 miles from this magnificent glen to greet the fast-flowing Spey by the old castle of Ballindalloch.
